Jason Akermanis is a decidedly experienced and successful AFL player. His flamboyant talents and bleach-blond hair make him easy to identify both, on and off the field. In October 2006, his long time club the Brisbane Lions, officially handed Jason Akermanis’ AFL career to Melbourne’s Western Bulldogs. Jason now lives in Melbourne with his family.
Back in 1999, when Leigh Matthews arrived in Brisbane for the season, he pulled what eventually proved to be a master stroke, switching the young tearaway to the back pocket to pick up the quick, opposition goal-sneaks. Jason hasn’t looked back. In 2000 he consolidated his standing as one of the top players in the Australian Rules Football League, and remains at that level today. A full-time footballer, he also does community work with team mates in the Life’s A Ball program, an initiative aimed at speaking to troubled high school students. In late 2004 he released his book “Aka. The Battle Within”. |
