Barbara Holborow has always interested in children’s rights, she was integral in the establishment of free legal aid for children in 1973.
From then on, Barbara Holborow championed the cause of children, working almost exclusively in the Children’s Courts. She was appointed to the bench and was a Children’s Court Magistrate in Sydney for twelve years. Barbara spent a good part of her magisterial career presiding over the toughest children’s courts. Every day she viewed life as few people have witnessed it.
Barbara Holborow fought to bring about changes and is proud of what she achieved. Her opinions are regularly sought by the media. She opened her court to the cameras of “60 Minutes”, thereby giving countless numbers of people the opportunity to witness and experience a world, that with any luck they would never become involved in themselves. It was these two appearances that received the public’s greatest response, the first being “Barbara’s Law” followed by the emotionally charged “Barbara’s Verdict”.
Barbara Holborow’s opinions are highly respected and she is a sought after speaker, addressing audiences in many facets of the community to deliver her inspirational, emotionally charged and thought provoking message.
“Those Tracks on My Face” was Barbara Holborow’s first book and is at times gritty and heartbreaking, but you will marvel at the courage and honour of this remarkable woman who continues to lobby so hard for justice for Australia’s youth.
In 2008, Barbara Holborow was named an Australia Day Ambassador.
