Jamie Durie is undoubtedly one of Australia’s most successful exports and recognisable talents. A qualified horticulturalist and landscape designer, he is the founder of the international award-winning design company PATIO Landscape Architecture and Design.
Jamie is a best-selling author, television host and manages his own successful line of merchandised product, PATIO by Jamie Durie. Of his six best-selling books, Patio—Garden Design and Inspiration, The Outdoor Room, The Source Book (Editions 1 and 2), Outdoor Kids and Inspired, three of these titles are released under his own publishing imprint Jamie Durie Publishing. A committed environmentalist and the pioneer of the Outdoor Room concept in Australia, Jamie has completely changed the face of landscape design, inspiring a whole new generation and successfully making gardening ‘hip’ again.
Born in Manly, northern Sydney, Jamie spent most of his childhood in the mining town of Tom Price in north Western Australia. Like most Australians, he loves the outdoors and his deep connection with nature guides him in creating the ultimate outdoor living spaces. His inspiration comes from the vast natural beauty of the Australian landscape, extensive international travel and a passion for Eastern culture and lifestyle through his Sri Lankan heritage. He successfully combines these elements to create his own unique style and approach to garden design.
One of Australia’s most popular talents, Jamie has hosted many of Australia’s top-rating television programs. It was in his role as host of TV sensation Backyard Blitz, where he first captured and inspired the imagination of the Australian public. A garden makeover show, Backyard Blitz received six Australian Logie awards in a row for Most Popular Lifestyle Program. Jamie received the individual Australian award for Most Popular Male Talent. He consolidated this success by hosting The Block—a renovation makeover show that now airs in over 30 countries around the world. He then went on to host Skating on Thin Ice and Torvill and Dean’s Dancing on Ice.
Since joining the Seven Network, Jamie has appeared in Dancing with the Stars and hosted Australia’s Best Backyards. His own program The Outdoor Room is in production with plans to air in both the U.S. and Australia. Jamie’s local talent, popularity and garden expertise has provided the ideal platform for his launch into the U.S. He now appears regularly on The Oprah Winfrey Show offering garden advice and inspiration, and he is also the new host of America’s longest running gardening program The Victory Garden which airs on PBS.
An advocate for preserving our natural surroundings and environmental future, Jamie has trained with former Vice President Al Gore as a Climate Change Presenter and regularly participates in environmental lectures around the world. Jamie currently sits on the board of the Royal Botanic Gardens Foundation, Sydney. |
