Chris Rhyss Edwards is a former Army Combat Engineer and peacekeeper, postgraduate-qualified journalist, global award winning technology entrepreneur, researcher and author.
An innovation award winner and finalist in the Prime Minister’s Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, Chris works at the intersection of technology, society and human behaviour, speaking internationally.
He is currently a Science PhD candidate in Human-Computer Interaction, researching our relationship with conversational AI and mental health, including disclosure, agency, wellbeing and trust. Chris recently delivered his second TEDx talk, AI & Human Connection, exploring what happens when machines become increasingly capable of understanding, responding to and appearing to care about us.
He is the author of Good Reasons to Kill, The Woke Paradox and The Silence Paradox, with recent fiction work Caesar’s Ghost. Combining research, storytelling, humour and provocative questions, Chris makes complex ideas accessible - and asks what it means to remain human in a technological world.
I had the pleasure of working closely with Chris as a speaker in August. And if I had one word to describe that experience, it would be ‘phenomenal’. I have had the opportunity to participate in quite a few industry events in the last few years and it's hard to find a talented speaker and a panel lead like Chris. The depth of industry knowledge, a great sense of current trends and a sincere care for attendees walking away with insights that they can use is what Chris clearly demonstrates. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Chris on any conference, he is involved in, as I know it will be of top quality.
I first saw Chris on stage at an event and recognized his unstoppable and infectious energy, coupled with a deep knowledge and passion for everything digital. On stage he binds all those qualities together coupled with just the right level of humour…audiences love him for it and are always deeply engaged as a result.
