Nicchia has over 20 years of workplace health and safety experience in a diverse range of environments. From Army Aviation to laboratories, oil and gas, higher education, trades, and workshops; Nicchia has had the opportunity to learn from so many industries. The insights, advice and experiences that each person and workplace has offered contribute to her passion and knowledge.

A natural storyteller, Nicchia has an infectious energy that engages audiences. With a Graduate Diploma, OHS and Certificate IV, Government (Investigation), Nicchia is also a certified TapRoot investigator, Safety Auditor, Safety Culture Leader, Defence Occupational Noise Officer (DONO), Aviation Safety Officer (ASO), and Learning Lead Facilitator. She rounds out her credentials as a Certified Generalist OHS Professional, Safety Institute of Australia (SIA) (COHSProf).

Nicchia started her safety journey at the University of Southern Queensland in their Sciences Faculty. Working in such diverse areas as nursing; psychology; human ethics; animal ethics; mechanical workshops; animal houses; chemistry, physics, biology, and microbiology laboratories; and radiation and laser safety; her WH&S knowledge and customer management skills were honed.

She lectured for many years on risk management in the Sciences and Engineering Faculties and ran interactive classes during Engineering Residential programs.

She is a specialist in WHS Investigation facilitation and organisational safety. She helps businesses ensure people do their jobs to the best of their ability and in the safest possible way.

Nicchia found her next challenge at the Army Aviation Training Centre (AAvnTC) in her role as Safety Manager, Ground Activities. Whilst developing the Ground Safety Management System she continued to develop her safety skills, while discovering a growing passion for incident investigation.

Nicchia was seconded to the Tiger School to manage aviation safety. She remained at the AAvnTC compound when she took up a role as Boeing’s EHS Manager but after five years she took on the role of BP Bulwer Island Refinery’s Lead Incident Investigator.  Her curious nature led her to a deeper understanding of the need for investigations to move beyond the person, and strive for real change within the culture of a workplace.

Her love of storytelling feeds in to a unique approach to culture through ‘safety industrial theatre and film’, and she has presented at a Queensland Roadshow for Workplace Health and Safety.

Nicchia is best described as a people person, who is willing to listen, learn and pass on her stories. Nicchia is also a stand-up comedian, a published script writer. Her energy, passion and sense of fun provides light and shade to her interactions with any audience.

Nicchia moderated her presentation and discussions in a highly professional manner, and was articulate and motivating. She engaged the entire audience; and through her skills, was able to maintain the audience’s active participation.
