In 2002, Phillip Di Bella’s passion for coffee and entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a small coffee-roasting operation in the suburbs of Brisbane. He named his company Di Bella Coffee. Phillip quickly caught the attention of local cafes with his enthusiasm for both his product and customer service, and quickly became a key player in the local coffee scene.

Over the last 14 years, the company has continued to thrive and expand with extraordinary speed. In 2010, Di Bella Coffee took an international leap into the booming Asian coffee market, establishing a headquarters in Shanghai, China. Di Bella Coffee commenced their second venture into international markets with the launch of operations in India.

Di Bella Coffee also achieved another coup in the company’s remarkable history, establishing a Green Bean buying branch of the business. My Crop to Cup is Di Bella Coffee’s green bean purchasing program, dedicated to sourcing green coffee beans from coffee-growing regions around the world and working alongside the coffee-growers to reach our shared goals.

Di Bella Coffee now wholesales to customers Australia-wide, with Roasting Warehouses in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Di Bella Coffee also retails through an online store. Di Bella Coffee is steadily becoming a household name: – 2.2 million cups of Di Bella Coffee are served throughout Australia every week and the company supplies over 1200 wholesale accounts around the country.

As far as founder and owner Phillip Di Bella is concerned, this is only the first chapter of Di Bella Coffee’s story. The same enthusiasm that put Di Bella Coffee on the map continues to push the company into new and exciting territory with every passing year, ever looking forward for new opportunities: for Di Bella Coffee, there is only the future.

Phillip Di Bella’s success story is fuelled by passion, commitment and innovation – three qualities that continue to earn him recognition and respect amongst both his employees and peers.

Over the last decade, Phillip’s company Di Bella Coffee has continued to thrive and expand. The speed of this growth was recognised in the 2006, 2007 and 2009 BRW Fast 100, with Di Bella Coffee proudly holding the mantle as the only coffee company to make the list in consecutive years.

They have been listed every year in the Queensland Business Review’s Queensland 400 List and Phillip was a finalist for Owner Manager of the Year in 2007 and won Young Manager of the Year in Brisbane in 2008.

Phillip was appointed Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Department of International Business and Asian Studies at Griffith University. He became the world’s youngest recipient of an Italian knighthood, bestowed with the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity for contribution to the Italian community. 

An announcement was then made that Di Bella Coffee had been bought out by Retail Food Group for an initial $30 million (with an extra $17 million payable upon achievement of certain milestones during the following three financial years).

Phillip is now busy with his New York City project another Coffee business where he won 18 medals out of 22 entries in the 2018 Golden Bean Awards, which is the world’s largest coffee roaster competition. Standing out in a crowded field of more than 1000 entries, the business picked up four silver and 14 bronze medals.
