Paul McGee, commonly known as The SUMO Guy, reflects on his journey, which has resembled a rollercoaster ride. Transitioning from his role as a probation officer in West Yorkshire to managing a beef burger factory in East Anglia, his path took unexpected turns. Struggling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in his mid-twenties, he went from being a high-flying graduate management trainee at a large multinational corporation to relying on invalidity benefits and a walking stick.

In the early 1990s, drawing upon his academic background in psychology and his keen interest in human behavior, he ventured into entrepreneurship. Paul established his own business, where he now engages in speaking engagements at conferences, delivering seminars, and hosting presentation skills masterclasses.

His impressive client roster boasts names like Manchester City Football Club, Tesco, Lloyds Bank, Virgin, Adidas, Specsavers, the NHS, and several charities. Having graced podiums in over 40 countries, Paul has authored 13 books, collectively amassing nearly half a million copies in sales.

In 2019, the University of Chester honored him with the title of Visiting Professor, acknowledging his efforts to bridge academic knowledge with real-world applicability, aiding individuals from diverse backgrounds and age groups, including schoolchildren.

Paul finds joy in combining his passions for comedy and sports, lending support to both Wigan Athletic and Bradford City—although he admits the rationale behind his dual allegiance is a tale unto itself. Alongside, he nurtures an affinity for nature, indulges in Netflix, and relishes warm locales. Despite his many strengths, he acknowledges his shortcomings, confessing to a lack of practicality and a recent diagnosis of DIY intolerance. As for providing directions, one might as well embrace the adventure of getting lost if seeking guidance from him.

I saw Paul present at an international conference. He uniquely addresses one of the biggest barriers to personal and business development... our own minds. The SUMO philosophy was a unanimous hit. Very, very powerful stuff!
