When a haul truck loses thirty per cent of its capacity, alarms sound and engineers scramble. When a maintainer with thirty years of experience retires, we hold a morning tea. Dr Mary M. McGeoch has built a career, and a keynote, on that contradiction.

Mary is one of very few leaders credentialed on both sides of what makes complex organisations perform. She began in organisational psychology, spending more than a decade in senior organisational development roles at National Australia Bank, Hudson Global and Drake International, before combining that human foundation with engineering asset management. Over the following fifteen years she held executive and senior leadership positions at Woolworths Group, Rio Tinto, Lendlease, BHP and Metro Trains Melbourne, governing portfolios from the $4.6B Barangaroo South precinct to asset integrity assurance across Rio Tinto's Asia Pacific operations, and co-designing BHP's Global Maintenance Centre of Excellence, whose programs delivered a savings pathway of around US$700 million a year.

She holds a PhD in Strategic Engineering Asset Management, a Master of Human Resource Management and an honours degree in psychology. She is a Fellow and Council Member of the Institute of Asset Management, a Fellow of the Australian HR Institute, Chair of Robotics Network Australia, Chair of Women in Asset Management, and a Board Nominee of the Global Mining Guidelines Group, for whom she is also a paid presenter on emerging technology and asset integrity.

On stage, Mary speaks to the boardroom, the control room and the crib room in the same keynote. Her signature framework, The Asset Triangle, strategy, process and people, bound by governance, is the subject of her first book, arriving in 2027, with Built to Bend to follow.
