Elizabeth Morris is an experienced psychotherapist and teacher specialising in compassion based interventions. She is also an advanced yoga teacher, mentor, author and social researcher! Pretty eclectic, in other words!

She spent her early career working in the mining engineering industry in South Africa as a buyer whilst she volunteered in crisis centres and learnt counselling skills. Her biggest challenge? Trying to be in less of a personal crisis than her clients!

She used her first degree in Communication Studies to be the Press Officer for the Crisis Centre in Johannesburg as well as a counsellor there. From there she changed career from PR to psychotherapy, returned to the UK and trained to be an Integrative Psychotherapist. She set her own private practice and specialised in self esteem research and development.

Her second degree in Psychology built on her therapeutic work and she has remained in Private Practice for over thirty five years now. However, she also became an educational consultant when schools and the UK Dept of Education took an interest in her self esteem work. At that time she became an advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office and advisor to the Treasury on retaining creativity and initiative in school leavers.

This consulting work and her books took her all over the world but her heart remained in Africa and she returned there in 2005. Continuing to run her therapy practice she added social development work to the eclectic mix and began social research into what actually works when providing empowerment interventions.

Along the way she trained as a Yoga teacher, specialising in Restorative Yoga. Her interest was always very practical – what works to help people feel better and make the most and best of their lives whatever their age, stage or circumstances. She found that deep somatic rest as well as self compassion were surfacing as the most effective approaches to change the quality of a person’s life and vitality.

Maybe you can be just too eclectic because she also burnt out twice during this life journey! However, she is a thorough learner and has now turned her learning about what has worked into training and support resources to share with fellow changemakers, people developers and personal transformers all over the world.
