Dr. Jenny cares deeply about people.
With over thirty-year’s experience as a healthcare professional she ‘gets’ that constant change and uncertainty can be challenging and exhausting. She brings a fresh approach to inspire what we can all do to make work better, by tapping into our unique human qualities. An award-winning speaker, Jenny uses stories and humour to embed the key messages that resonate with the audience so they leave knowing not just what’s possible, but what they can do next.
Not having any idea of what she wanted to be when she grew up except, she wasn’t going to be a doctor, because that's what her parents wanted her to be, Jenny chose to follow her heart and study what she was interested in. Always fascinated by how things worked, she spent countless hours exploring her world, collecting plant specimens, insects and spiders and conducting various experiments at home, some of which didn’t quite produce the expected outcome like the time she set the kitchen on fire and the occasion she caused the living room ceiling to collapse by flooding a bathroom.
Her curiosity, love of learning and desire to be of service to others took her to first to nursing, qualifying as a Nightingale Nurse and then to medicine, after discovering that scrubbing bedpans and cleaning up vomit wasn’t her perfect career choice after all. Her goal was to enter general practice and she set up her own group medical practice in the northern suburbs of Perth, practicing family health care as she believed it should be practised, with care, dedication and love. She became medical practitioner and Fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine.
But as her business grew ever more successful, Jenny was increasingly frustrated by what she saw as a medical system relying on Band-Aid solutions rather than a willingness to get to the nitty-gritty of what was really making people sick, and more importantly what would keep them well? Which is why she left clinical practice for a voyage of discovery into the emerging neuroscience, behavioural science and positive psychology, translating the findings into simple practical tools to enhance thinking, healthy habits and smarter ways of working. She has post graduate certificates in nutrition and environmental medicine, the neuroscience of leadership, lifestyle medicine and is trained to teach mindfulness meditation.
She is the author of 3 books including the best seller Future Brain now in its 2nd edition as Smarter Sharper Thinking. She is currently writing her next book due for publication by Wiley in July 2020. As a prolific writer she has around 800 articles on her website and has been published in many online and print journals and newspapers. She is a regular contributor to the CEO Magazine and the Good Health Guide. She is also well recognised as a thought leader in the space of brain health and workplace performance and is regularly sought out as a commentator on TV and radio.
Today as a speaker, author and trainer Dr. Jenny works with business leaders, educators and those keen to develop a greater self-awareness of why we think and behave the way we do, to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, and tap into what works to help us all to be better humans and achieve the success, fulfillment and happiness we desire.
