Chopper pilot and animal expert, Matt Wright has spent his life in the great outdoors drawn to creatures that most of us would run away from. As a child he was raised in tropical far-north Queensland and spent time in Papua New Guinea, where living off the land and being comfortable with snakes, spiders, rouge cattle and even sharks was simply way of life.

By the age of ten, Matt had a collection of one of Australia’s most deadly animals, the king brown Snake. Matt had three of these living in his bedroom and was frequently in trouble at home and school for eagerly sharing his ‘pets’ with everyone.

As an adult, Matt’s career path has seen him tackle a range of jobs that require incredible nerve and a practical ‘can do’ attitude. His jobs have seen him work as an outback musterer, oil rig worker, soldier in the Australian Army, crocodile egg collector and a professional chopper pilot and instructor.

Today, Matt’s passions and unique skills have fostered a career as a wildlife re-locator – tracking down, capturing and transporting a diverse range of dangerous animals including crocodiles, wild buffalo and even polar bears. Matt Wright is a proud ambassador of the Worldwide Veterinary Service and his objective is always based on the preservation of wildlife: to remove and relocate problem animals rather than to kill them.

Working in a specific junction between the world of the wild and the world of humans, Matt’s motto is: any animal, anywhere, any time and he has plied his unique trade throughout Australia, North America, Africa and Asia. As a chopper pilot, Matt is able to access areas and animals that would otherwise be impossible to reach and as a conservationist he brings his unique practical experience and a perspective based on genuine compassion.

Matt works closely with scientists, wildlife management authorities, Indigenous elders and cattle station owners to ensure a win/win situation for both the animals as well as the people that need his help.

Matt Wright’s debut series Outback Wrangler aired globally on National Geographic in 2011. Season 2 was launched in November 2015 and was seen in over 90 countries and will be launched in a major way in the United States in January 2017. Outback Wrangler’s third season is currently in pre-production and will share new and exciting stories from the Australian Outback. Stay tuned for when it hits screen globally at the end of 2017.
